sometimes he disappears for weeks at a time (i won't see him again until february) and always has these fantastic stories for me:
I should have known it would come to this. I'm lying in the desert, bleeding from wounds on every limb, the taste of bile in my mouth, staring up at the monster that's promising me another beating. Being a crack addict can have its off days.
Perhaps I should explain. I've been hooked on crack for two years now. To get a fix, I've done things I'm not proud of: spent money I didn't have, blown off friends and family, traveled across oceans, lied to bosses about my whereabouts, risked my life in scary places most people with common sense would be afraid to set foot.
now he's talking about taking me outdoors next year.
could someone please explain what that new icon for vox neighborhood post security setting is about?
"Children of Men" envisages a world one generation from now that has fallen into anarchy on the heels of an infertility defect in the population. The world's youngest citizen has just died at 18, and humankind is facing the likelihood of its own extinction. Set against a backdrop of London torn apart by violence and warring nationalistic sects, "Children of Men" follows an unlikely champion of Earth's survival: Theo (Owen), a disillusioned ex-activist turned bureaucrat, who is forced to face his own demons and protect the planet's last remaining hope. the production values on this one are remarkable, not to mention the social commentary -- homeland security buses shuttling refugees (detainees) into mandated holding slums. the horrifying depiction of war, terrorism, and freedoms curtailed became that much more real to me; i recommend this as a must-see for all americans, especially in living in this bush administration era.
excellent excellent film. see it now or when it is released next month in the states.
berlin time is waking up at 4 PM and going out at 1 AM. yesterday we
came back a little after 9 AM. theoretically, i shouldn't be jetlagged
when i get back to SF except for that annoying plane trip bit.
listening to disko donkey through loud headphones and watching jeff snack on toast. no sleep yet, won't give in.
13:30 PST
i'm waiting at gate G100 in SFO for my flight to frankfurt and writing this offline in textedit since even tmobile wireless can't find its own servers. just past security there are a couple zoom systems vending machines with various ipods and ipod accessories available for purchase. i don't know why they don't have more of those things around here. we are so far behind japan.
no pictures because i didn't want to seem too much of a luddite; it's just stuff in vending machines that are not edible.
15:49 PST
got a WLAN connection, but regular internet service is unavailable right now. hopefully that will change soon. i don't seem to be near a power port anyway.
16:15 PST
i was about to write about how unbelievably comfortable i am on this flight right now, but we're having some uncomfortable turbulence.
otherwise, i was just handed a hot hand-towel to refresh, i'm watching what appears to be an inflight version of DW-TV, i have two pillows because the seat next to me is unoccupied (additional drink/work space!), i have the aisle seat, and i'm all comfy in a blanket. did i ever mention how much i <3 blankets? i have another blanket on the seat next to me but now that just seems excessive.
paying a little more for lufthansa = excellent idea.
the inflight movie is going to be the break-up. i hope to find it funny. i brought snow crash and lonely planet berlin for backup. for some dumb reason i put my cameras' usb cables in my checked luggage, so no pics now. i'm on battery power anyway.
17:03 PST
we have internets!
